Blog Post #6: How does our garden grow?

1) So far, our plant seems to be growing. This isn't without help from different processes within the plant, and it takes a lot of energy to keep the plant consistently growing. Where does the plant get all of it's energy? The plants get all of this energy from photosynthesis , which is a process that carbon dioxide and sunlight to create energy. In order to collect sunlight, the leaves of a plant contain mesophyl cells that have chloroplasts. This is the main area of photosynthesis occurs, and absorbs the light energy from the sun (or sometimes artificial lighting). This energy is stored as ATP, which helps change carbon dioxide into glucose. This glucose is used to help feed the plant. The plant then needs to get the energy ,or ATP, from the glucose that the plants had created in photosynthesis. This is done in a process called cellular respiration .         So fertilization for Brassica plants starts when the spring comes and the plants begin to atrract pollenaters like bees and other types of insects and animals to spread their pollen to other flowers and the pollen comes from the anthers of the flower. Then when the pollen from one Brassica flower hits the stigma of the same species then the sperm of the pollen enters the ovary and begins the process of fertilization. After that they begin to produce Brassica seeds and the process starts from the beginning again. In the picture to the left it shows the stigma of the Brassica flower and the stigma is sticky so when pollenaters like bees land on the flower the pollen on the bee gets caught on the stigma and fertilization begins.   How does your Garden Grow? Blog Post #6  1) Our plant is small but it is growing and that is what we care about. When my plant uses the process known as photosynthesis my plant makes its own energy so it can survive. This process begins when the plant recieves  nutrients to survive like water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide. When the plant gives out oxygen from the carbon dioxide it takes in the plant uses the energy. Since the energy the plant uses is for plant growth the cells then can start the process mitosis. The first step in mitosis is interphase when the cell is preparing to divide then comes prophase which is when the chromosomes of the cell are visible. Then metaphase comes and the chromosomes go into the middle to the fiber and attaches them together. Another step is anaphase and that is when the chromosomes divide. And the last step in the mitosis process is telophase. And then cytokinesis is when the cellis now 2 cells in which it is now 2 plant cells. ...

1) So when my plant uses Photosynthesis it makes energy for it self to survive. Photosynthesis begins when the plant receives water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide. After that it dos the process and releases oxygen because it doesn't use a lot of it and it also produces glucose or sometimes food like fruit because it uses it as energy. Then when the plant breathes out oxygen all the energy it made is used. It is used for plant growth, flower for\ation and fruit production. Since the energy is used for plant growth that means it has the energy of its cells to begin to multiply by the process of mitosis. The beginning of mitosis is interphase, when the cell is preparing itself to divide. Then comes prophase when the chromosomes of the cell are now visable. Bio site Project P.1

                                         Bio site  Project P.1        Our group was me, David and Isaac. What our group did to prepare was basically we looked over our packet and we looked at all the things that we need to teach and we divided each section and everyone in the group got one or two sections and we all studied our part. My part in all this was to talk and describe all the parts of the plant like seeds, flowers, fruit, stem, roots, and leaf. Knowing my part I studied it all day and for about half an hour during the night and then some more the next day. The days that the kids came I was ready and prepared to teach the kids but I do admit that I was definitely nervous. But, I did what I needed to do and it felt good to know that I didn't need to be nervous. Overall I group did a good job preparing.

Blog Post #4: An Ecological Analysis of the Garden and Our Plant

1. Some abiotic factors that our plant depends on are the sun, water, nitrogen, air, carbon, and the dirt. Some biotic factors that affect our plant are nearby plants, which could eventually block some of the sunlight that our plant needs, or birds or other animals that might eat our plant. 2. I would be able to tell out plant is in competition if it was growing slower than the other plants or was making very little progress on making it to the size that it needs to be at. Our plants would be competing for water or sunlight, and it'd be competing with the other plants or maybe the tree nearby it. 3. "winners" and "losers" are determined by if the plant makes it to the expected size it needs to be, or if the plant ends up being too small, from what it's supposed to be. It's not always clear who the "winners" or "losers" are because they could be just a little bit under the required size, or maybe it's an internal growth issue, ...
