Blog Post #4: An Ecological Analysis of the Garden and Our Plant

1. Some abiotic factors that our plant depends on are the sun, water, nitrogen, air, carbon, and the dirt. Some biotic factors that affect our plant are nearby plants, which could eventually block some of the sunlight that our plant needs, or birds or other animals that might eat our plant.

2. I would be able to tell out plant is in competition if it was growing slower than the other plants or was making very little progress on making it to the size that it needs to be at. Our plants would be competing for water or sunlight, and it'd be competing with the other plants or maybe the tree nearby it.

3. "winners" and "losers" are determined by if the plant makes it to the expected size it needs to be, or if the plant ends up being too small, from what it's supposed to be. It's not always clear who the "winners" or "losers" are because they could be just a little bit under the required size, or maybe it's an internal growth issue, which we wouldn't be able to see.

4. One type of interaction that our plants are in are commensalism, this is between us humans and the plants (this is as of now, not forever). We give the plants water, and we don't get anything from it (right now).

5. There is evidence of secondary secession in our garden. This is because there is nice soil and a place for the plants to grow, without having to wait for something to happen to enable the plants to grow.
