And we got these seeds because our original plant the Brasseca had to grow big enough and be healthy enough to grow these flowers that would have these seeds and all these different parts that we learned about. These parts would be the stigma, anthers, carpel, stamen and ovales. So first you would need the anthers which would produce the pollen and attract pollenators (bee) and send pollen to other plants. And then the bees with fly to the plant and basically sit on the stigma and would get stuck and extract the pollen. Blog Post #7:        In order for our plant to have been planted in the first place, we would need seeds. We got these through a very important process. It all began with another plant, that when it got big enough, began to grow flowers. These flowers would have multiple parts, including the anthers, stigma, stamen, carpel, and ovules. First, the flower would use the anthers to produce pollen, which is basically the sperm for plants. Then a Bee would pick up that pollen from the flowers and bring it to another flower. This bee would land on the carpel, and the pollen would get stuck on the stigma, because of their sticky tip. Blog Post #6: How does our garden grow?

1) So far, our plant seems to be growing. This isn't without help from different processes within the plant, and it takes a lot of energy to keep the plant consistently growing. Where does the plant get all of it's energy? The plants get all of this energy from photosynthesis , which is a process that carbon dioxide and sunlight to create energy. In order to collect sunlight, the leaves of a plant contain mesophyl cells that have chloroplasts. This is the main area of photosynthesis occurs, and absorbs the light energy from the sun (or sometimes artificial lighting). This energy is stored as ATP, which helps change carbon dioxide into glucose. This glucose is used to help feed the plant. The plant then needs to get the energy ,or ATP, from the glucose that the plants had created in photosynthesis. This is done in a process called cellular respiration .         So fertilization for Brassica plants starts when the spring comes and the plants begin to atrract pollenaters like bees and other types of insects and animals to spread their pollen to other flowers and the pollen comes from the anthers of the flower. Then when the pollen from one Brassica flower hits the stigma of the same species then the sperm of the pollen enters the ovary and begins the process of fertilization. After that they begin to produce Brassica seeds and the process starts from the beginning again. In the picture to the left it shows the stigma of the Brassica flower and the stigma is sticky so when pollenaters like bees land on the flower the pollen on the bee gets caught on the stigma and fertilization begins.   How does your Garden Grow? Blog Post #6  1) Our plant is small but it is growing and that is what we care about. When my plant uses the process known as photosynthesis my plant makes its own energy so it can survive. This process begins when the plant recieves  nutrients to survive like water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide. When the plant gives out oxygen from the carbon dioxide it takes in the plant uses the energy. Since the energy the plant uses is for plant growth the cells then can start the process mitosis. The first step in mitosis is interphase when the cell is preparing to divide then comes prophase which is when the chromosomes of the cell are visible. Then metaphase comes and the chromosomes go into the middle to the fiber and attaches them together. Another step is anaphase and that is when the chromosomes divide. And the last step in the mitosis process is telophase. And then cytokinesis is when the cellis now 2 cells in which it is now 2 plant cells. ...

1) So when my plant uses Photosynthesis it makes energy for it self to survive. Photosynthesis begins when the plant receives water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide. After that it dos the process and releases oxygen because it doesn't use a lot of it and it also produces glucose or sometimes food like fruit because it uses it as energy. Then when the plant breathes out oxygen all the energy it made is used. It is used for plant growth, flower for\ation and fruit production. Since the energy is used for plant growth that means it has the energy of its cells to begin to multiply by the process of mitosis. Bio site Project P.1

                                         Bio site  Project P.1        Our group was me, David and Isaac. What our group did to prepare was basically we looked over our packet and we looked at all the things that we need to teach and we divided each section and everyone in the group got one or two sections and we all studied our part. My part in all this was to talk and describe all the parts of the plant like seeds, flowers, fruit, stem, roots, and leaf. Knowing my part I studied it all day and for about half an hour during the night and then some more the next day. The days that the kids came I was ready and prepared to teach the kids but I do admit that I was definitely nervous. But, I did what I needed to do and it felt good to know that I didn't need to be nervous. Overall I group did a good job preparing.

1. Some abiotic factors that our plant depends on are the sun, water, nitrogen, air, carbon, and the dirt. Some biotic factors that affect our plant are nearby plants, which could eventually block some of the sunlight that our plant needs, or birds or other animals that might eat our plant. 2. I would be able to tell out plant is in competition if it was growing slower than the other plants or was making very little progress on making it to the size that it needs to be at. Our plants would be competing for water or sunlight, and it'd be competing with the other plants or maybe the tree nearby it. 3. "winners" and "losers" are determined by if the plant makes it to the expected size it needs to be, or if the plant ends up being too small, from what it's supposed to be. It's not always clear who the "winners" or "losers" are because they could be just a little bit under the required size, or maybe it's an internal growth issue, ...

Blog #4 1) Some abiotic factors my plant depends on are the sun, soil, and water because the sun gives the plant energy, the soil gives the plant its nutrients, and the water makes sure the plant is hydrated and some biotic factors the plant depends on are us, bacteria, and little mammals to distribute it's seed or bees to distribute it's pollen. 2) I know that my plant is in competition with other plants because they all have the same niche which is to produce food and to do that they have to compete with each other to get there resources and be able to make food and reproduce my plant's competition are the other plants in the garden bed from period 5. 3)The winners are identified by how healthy they are and if they reproduced and the losers are the unhealthy looking ones who look like they are about to die and haven't reproduced yet.                                                              Blog Post #3 Biogeochemical Cycles 1) Our brassica oleracea this week looks like it has gotten bigger. It looks more green and colorful then the last few weeks I got pictures of them. 2) When the water gets into the soil and plants the moisture goes through the plants from roots, then it changes to vapor and is released to the atmosphere. 3) Our plant participates in the carbon cycle in the biosphere because carbon photosynthesizes into plants from the air and then the plant breaks it down and the carbon respires to the air. 4)In the nitrogen cycle the soil bacteria changes ammonia and ammonium ions to nitrate ions. Nitrogen ions turns back to nitrogen gas.

1. In the last week, I've noticed that our plant grew a little bit more, and the stems started to change from green to a purplish color. I also noticed that the leaves of the plant are starting to get small points on the edges. 2. Our plant was part of the water cycle by absorbing the water that comes from rain or other things, and will eventually be eaten by our group. 3. Our plant is part of the carbon cycle because it absorbs the carbon, and will get eaten when it gets to a big enough size, passing on its carbon. 4. Blog #3 1) The changes I noticed this week was that the plant did grow a little, but it looked pretty dry like it needed some water and I also noticed that one of the stems with a leave on it had fallen and was really dry. Today  2) Their roles in the water cycle is transpiration of plants which makes the water go up in the sky for condensation. After seeing my plant today I guess it just did this process because of how dry it looked when I went to go see it.(View picture above) 3) Their roles in the carbon cycle is photosynthesis and plant respiration which lets carbon into the air. The plants are always doing plant respiration and photosynthesis so I don't think it had any affect on its physical appearance. 4) The role of my plant in the nitrogen cycle is plant consumption and organic residues which means they ate nitrogen and threw it out as organic matter. Blog #1   My name is Yordi Lopez I have only lived in San Jose California. I was born on November 1st 2003.  Yes I have gardened before and i grew chili peppers. I remember that it took very long to grow the peppers and I had to water them every day and had to do my homework every day but in the end I got to harvest and eat them so it was worth it. I know of people who work a lot at farms and gardening for example my great grandpa.  He grows corn, lettuce, potatoes, tomatoes and has chickens. When I was a kid I remember helping grow corn and it was a great memory. Once with my cousins we all grew corn and for thanks giving we all ate it and it was worth it.
